Montrio Belton, Esq.
Montrio is an experienced criminal, civil, and educational litigator and has represented clients at all levels of South Carolina State courts and in South Carolina’s Federal District Court. Montrio represents clients in hearings and trials in the court system as well as before local school boards and educational hearing officers.
He has successfully tried cases before a jury and relentlessly represents students and parents in urgent educational matters such as school expulsions, Special Education Due Process Hearings, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings. As former school teacher, principal, and South Carolina’s Director of School Transformation, Montrio is knowledgeable of and prepared to advocate for students and parents seeking a voice in their child’s education.
Many of Montrio’s clients are ordinary citizens that have been charged with misdemeanor or felony crimes, students that have been expelled from school or are not receiving a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) that is guaranteed Exceptional Children in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), or persons that have been injured because of the negligence of somebody else.
Montrio served six years in the United States Army Reserves, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Winthrop University, and has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He also has a Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law and is admitted to practice law in South Carolina State Courts and South Carolina’s Federal District Court.

Andre Coaxum, Esq.
Andre Coaxum is an attorney with a background as a former Judicial Law Clerk and former prosecutor, bringing experience from all angles of the courtroom.
Andre was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in African and African American Diaspora studies. At Chapel Hill, Andre was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, while also being involved with the Civic Engagement Committee of the Student Government and numerous minority mentoring programs. Continuing his education, Andre enrolled at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate.
Andre is a member of the South Carolina and North Carolina State Bars. He was previously a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Daniel D. Hall, giving him insight into the judicial process and familiarity with the litigation process. After his clerkship, Andre worked for the Sixth Circuit Solicitor’s Office where he was an Assistant Solicitor focusing primarily on prosecuting Driving Under the Influence offenses across Fairfield, Chester, and Lancaster counties, and expanded his legal skills in criminal law.
After prosecuting, Andre continued his legal career as a private criminal defense attorney. He now continues to practice criminal, adding personal injury and workers compensation law to his experience here at the Law Offices of Montrio Belton.
